Dr. Choudhary is Director Bone Marrow Transplant at BLK Super Speciality Hospital, New Delhi India. He did his graduation (MBBS) and post graduation in Internal Medicine from Dr. SN Medical College, Jodhpur. After post graduation he did his residency in Hematology at CMC Vellore and at SGPIMS Lucknow. He completed DM in Clinical Hematology from All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi. After DM he underwent Bone Marrow Transplant fellowship training at Vancouver General Hospital in Leukemia/BMT program of British Columbia.
After Fellowship, he decided to move back to India and start Bone Marrow Transplant in North India and joined prestigious Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi as Consultant Clinical hematology. He started Allogenic BMT for Thalassemia Major and Aplastic Anemia single handedly and did transplant successfully.
t was his dream to set up and work in world class transplant unit; he decided to move out of Sir Ganga Ram Hospital and joined BLK Super Speciality Hospital in late 2008. He initially started with a four bedded transplant unit in an under construction hospital. Subsequently, a proper BMT unit of 9 beds was commissioned in January 2010 and within two and half year unit was expanded to 25 bedded stat of art transplant unit.
BLK BMT unit focuses on Allogenic transplant which is a need of this part of country. Within 2 yrs more then 50 BMTs have been performed for Thalassemia major, which is the highest number of bone marrow transplant for this disease in north India.
In first two year our focus was to set up and run match sibling Allogenic transplant program successfully.
After successful sibling transplant program and Autologous stem cell transplant program, unrelated donor transplants were started. He with his team were the first to perform successful unrelated donor transplant in New Delhi on a patient of High risk Myelodysplastic syndrome with donor from DKMS (German registry).
Currently he and his team are doing unrelated donor transplant through DATRI (Indian donor registry), DKMS (German registry) & NMDP (donor registry of USA) as non network transplant centre of NMDP.
In 2013 after successful transplant using match related, unrelated and Autologous transplant, his team has now moved into Haplo identical transplant on a patient with Severe Aplastic Anemia using father as half match donor. This patient is cured of her Severe Aplastic Anemia.
In addition to domestic patients coming for transplantation from various part of country, he and his team regularly perform transplants for patients from Iraq, United Arab Emirates, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Nepal, Nigeria and Kenya.
Dr. Choudhary has special interest in transplantation for Thalassemia Major, Aplastic Anemia and Acute Leukemia’s. He not only has a passion for transplant procedure, but also for the post transplant care which includes graft versus host disease, and post transplant infection.
He is a keen academician and attends stem cell transplant meetings regularly to keep up-to-date about transplant field.
His stem cell Transplant work has been presented in annual transplant meeting in BMT tandem meeting (Sandiego, USA) & Asia Pacific bone marrow transplant (Hyderabad, India).
